Materials Engineer


Sculptify designs, develops, and builds desktop 3D printers in Columbus, Ohio. Position Summary

As a Materials Engineer at Sculptify, you will be responsible for testing and updating current and future hardware materials, as well as, researching and testing of new print materials.  The applicant must be highly self motivated and detail oriented  This position requires relocation to Sculptify Headquarters, in Columbus, Ohio.


You will report directly to the leadership team, and work closely with the product development team, domestic and foreign suppliers, and mechanical engineers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct print strength, stiffness, and strain trials

  • Help develop new printing techniques to increase part strength and finish

  • Help develop optimal print settings, including print speed and temperature control

  • Obtain samples and test print materials

  • Research and report on new materials relevant to our work

  • Research competitors and develop benchmarks based on your findings

  • Test hardware parts and make suggestions for material/design changes


Education and Professional Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Material Science and Engineering, or similar degree

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience strongly prefered


  • Ability to conduct thorough tests and reach conclusions from your findings

  • Ability to develop test procedures

  • Ability to document test procedures/tests, and articulate your findings to management

  • Ability to work with suppliers to reduce costs and offer more/better materials  

  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Drive, Skype, and data logging software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with 3D printing

  • Familiarity with thermoplastics and composites industries
